IDEAS YOU CAN TRY AT HOME

 Playdough
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 tablespoons cream of tarter
2 cups of water
2 tablespoons oil
food coloring
Mix all  dry ingredients together in a saucepan. Mix wet ingredients together and add to dry. Cook over medium heat, stirring until
stiff. Allow to cool, then knead.

Salt Play Dough
What You Need:

  1. One-cup salt
  2. One-cup water
  3. 1/2 cup flour

What You Do:

  1. Mix ingredients and cook over medium heat. Remove from heat when mixtures looks thick and rubbery. As the mixture cools, slowly roll in flour until it cools into dough.
  2. Shapes can be baked in a slow oven until hard and then painted when cool.
  3. You can make beads this way for threading by rolling small balls of dough and cooking them on a skewer.

Crepe Paper Clay
What You Need:

  1. One-cup crepe paper (torn into tiny pieces)
  2. One-cup warm water
  3. 1/2 to 2/3 cup wheat flour (not self rising)

What You Do:

  1. Place tiny pieces of crepe paper into a bowl and pour the warm water over it. Let this sit for several hours until soft and pliable. Pour off the excess water and add 1/2 cup of flour and stir until mixed thoroughly. Pour out onto a floured surface and knead. This clay will adhere to glass and it can also be used to sculpt over wire – like papier mache.

Great Bubbles
What You Need:

  1. 1/2 C. Water
  2. 1/2 C. Liquid Detergent
  3. One Tablespoon Cooking Oil

What You Do:

  1. Mix together and use.

Cornflour Finger paint
What You Need:

  1. Three Tablespoons Sugar
  2. Two cups cold water
  3. Food coloring
  4. Soap flakes
  5. One-Half cup cornflour

What You Do:

  1. Mix the sugar & cornflour in over low heat. Add water and stir until mixture is thick. Remove from heat. Next divide the paint into several different containers. Add a few drops of food coloring and a pinch or two of soap flakes to each container. Stir well and let cool. Store this in an airtight container in the fridge.

Gelatin Plastic
What You Need:

  1. Three envelopes unflavored gelatin
  2. Nine tablespoons water
  3. 35 drops of food coloring
  4. Lid with a rim

What You Do

  1. Mix the water and food coloring in a small pan over low heat. Add gelatin, stir continuously, and cook for 30 seconds until thickened. Divide and colour with food colouring.  Pour the mixtures into seperate plastic lids (icecream lids are ideal), push the air bubbles to the edge with a spoon and set aside for about fifty minutes until flexible. Remove the gelatin from the lid. You can then use cookie cutters, or scissors to shape it. Finally dry the plastic by placing it between two pieces of wax paper (sticking out beyond the gelatin). Then putting the lid used at the beginning over the creation, and a weight on top of that (this prevents the creation from curling).

This substance is ideal for making Christmas tree ornaments or other crafts
